“Roppongi Crossing” Overviews the Japanese Contemporary Art Scene Through a Concept of Time

Roppongi Crossing is an exhibition that overviews the Japanese contemporary art scene through a single, elastic concept of time. It has taken place every three years since 2004. 21 artists participated in this exhibition, bringing together more than 100 artworks across painting, sculpture, craft, video, and more. The subtitle is ” What Passes Is Time. We Are Eternal.”

There are many stimuli that provoke imagination. A.A. Murakami’s “The Moon Under the Water” is a large-scale installation composed of soap bubbles governed by an AI operating system. It creates an immersive environment.

Kuwata Takuro’s ceramic works draw on traditional Japanese pottery techniques, with bright-colored ceramics.

Wada Reijiro’s “MITTAG 2025” is made of glass, brass, bronze, and brandy. The color of brandy shines against the background of the view from the Roppongi Hills.
