“SHAKO-SEKI” is a Unique Concept in Which Moments from a Journey Captured in Stone

Mizoe Art Gallery exhibits “Materializing Landscape”, which means transforming a captured scene into a tangible object that holds memory, light, and emotion.”

Shioi Kazutaka, the artist’s theme is captured in “Shako-seki,” <写光石> a unique concept in which fleeting moments from a journey are permanently captured in stone.

Whenever the artist encounters a moving landscape or a memorable person on their travels, he presses the shutter.

That captured scenery is then printed onto traditional Japanese Washi paper, meticulously applied to a natural stone, and sealed with a glossy topcoat. The finished piece features a smooth, polished surface.

Each unique stone is a tactile vessel filled with the artist’s deep emotions, memories, and the spirit of the place they visited.
